How to Make Murabyan – Kuwaiti Dishes & Recipes

Murabyan is a famous Kuwaiti dish loaded with rice and shrimp. However, it has more toppings and garnishing elements. Shrimp is very popular in Kuwait and other Middle Eastern countries. You can flavor the dish with turmeric, sautéed onions, dried black limes, and coriander. Here is the procedure to make Murabyan.

Ingredients

  • A half teaspoon of olive oil
  • A half-large onion – sliced
  • One clove of mashed garlic
  • One teaspoon of coriander
  • A half teaspoon of fresh ginger
  • One pound of peeled shrimp
  • ¼ teaspoon of black pepper
  • Two teaspoons of kosher salt
  • One large tomato–sliced
  • Two cups of water
  • Two cups of basmati rice
  • You will need these ingredients for topping
    • 1/8 cup of olive oil
    • One yellow onion – sliced
    • ¼ teaspoon of cardamom
    • ¼ teaspoon of dried black lime
    • A half teaspoon of curry powder
    • A half teaspoon of ground turmeric
    • ¼ teaspoon of ground cloves
    • One clove of mashed garlic
    • ¼ cup of fresh cilantro – chopped
    • A half teaspoon of black pepper
    • A half teaspoon of coriander

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat
  2. Add sliced onions and stir until golden brown
  3. Now add the spice mixture, pepper, and garlic
  4. Add one pound of shrimp and tomato slices and cook for ten minutes
  5. Add water and salt and bring to the boil
  6. Now add the rinsed and drained rice and stir in to mix everything
  7. Reduce the heat and cook until water is absorbed
  8. Follow these steps to make the topping
    1. Sauté onions in olive oil
    2. Add chopped cilantro, spices, lime, and garlic mixture
    3. Stir these ingredients together
    4. Add the remaining shrimp and cook properly
    5. Put rice mixture on a palter and use a spoon to topping
  9. The dish is ready
  10. Enjoy the delicious Murabyan with your family or friends
