How to Make Jareesh

Jareesh is a popular Kuwaiti dish frequently made by people living in the Saudi region of Qassim. It contains yogurt, crushed wheat, and meat, making it a healthy and delicious treat for everyone, including children and adults. Here are the ingredients and instructions to make Jareesh.

Ingredients

  • Two cups of washed groats
  • Two teaspoons of salt
  • Two teaspoons of mixed spices
  • Two teaspoons of black pepper
  • One finely chopped onion
  • Two tablespoons of butter
  • Six pieces of Kiri cheese
  • One chopped onion for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Add butter to the saucepan and melt it over a medium heat
  2. Now add onions and cook for two minutes
  3. Add the shredded chicken to the cooked onions and stir well
  4. Add chicken broth, mixed spices, and salt
  5. Add Kiri cheese to the chicken and stir for 30-60 seconds
  6. Now put in some washed groats and stir for another two minutes
  7. Add boiling water to the pot to cover the groats
  8. Continue stirring for two minutes
  9. Heat the butter in a frying pan and add the chopped onions
  10. Stir for three minutes and set aside
  11. Pour the groats into a plate or dish
  12. Use butter and fried onion for garnishing and serve
